the
hardware comprises of the 4 modules displayed below and is the "WM918
Weather Station" from Dick Smith In Australia. Other companies
around the world rebadge the same hardware and market it under different
names, but usually with the same "WM918" model designation.
 
The control
module is connected via a standard serial cable to the COM1 port of
the computer and sends updated data every 10 seconds at 9600 baud.
The external sensors (above) measure
windspeed and direction, temperature and humidity, and rainfall. Internal sensors measure temperature, humidity and
barometric pressure. The internal sensors are a part of the central
control module.

The cameras are connected to a video capture card via CAT-5
cable terminated at each end with baluns. The baluns convert
unbalanced 75 ohm Composite Video signals to 100 ohm balanced
and allow transmission
of up to 600 metres over the CAT-5 cable. Power for the
cameras is also supplied via the CAT-5 cable.
